A new Artist portrait has been completed by Piete and I am so happy to share it with you! Piete did awesome work and I really appreciate his participation. I am currently waiting to assign the next piece to one of you who are on the list. You may speak up if you are eager to be next in line, otherwise I will contact you by note.

I have also been thinking about collecting your contact information (privately through note or e-mail) in order to keep track. It doesn't have to be your full address and phone number (though that would be nice). It can be an e-mail address where I can reach you if I need to. If in the future we decide we would like to place these pieces into a book I would like to be able to get a hold of you if I need a better quality scan/file of your drawing for print. I will almost certainly need bigger/better files of your pieces for print as well as a little bit of info/bio (full name too) about yourself to place underneath your portrait.
I think with enough portraits it would be a great little coffee table type book.
We'll see what happens. For those of you who's turn has not yet come please keep in mind that you want to do your best work on these portraits. They should reflect your skill and talent in the best way possible. Think book-worthy.

I want all who think of joining to read this carefully:

Although I would love for everyone to be able to participate, I have to be careful which artists I choose to be part of this project. If you would like to join, consider the following before noting me;

A.) Do you consider yourself to be a good Portrait Artist?

B.) Are you patiently willing to wait for your turn?

C.) Are you sure you will still be interested in participating, even if it takes a few months until your turn comes up?

D.) Are you willing to do your best, in as few days as possible? Although I am giving everyone a month to complete the project, it would be incredibly helpful to the person after you if you were able to complete your piece in less than a month's time.

I had no idea this project would spark such an interest, but because it has, it has the potential to become something wonderful. Please respect the artist before you and try your best to do them justice. Not only will this reflect on the quality of the project, but also on you as an artist.

INFO ABOUT THIS PROJECT

I have started this D.A. account for one purpose, and that is to get as many artists involved in this project as possible.
Read the FAQ below. I'm still trying to work out all the rules. Some might change, so check back in the next week or two (or just watch) for updates.

How do I know I'm qualified to join this Project?

-- If you feel confident that you are a good portrait artist, you may join. Although I would like to include anyone and everyone in this project, we do have to take into consideration that the portraits must be of some quality. These are realistic-looking portraits, so anime, cartoon, or caricature does not apply here. If you have portraits in your gallery, it will make it that much easier for me to decide if you're ready.

-- If I tell you you're not ready yet, don't give up hope. This is not my way of telling you that you are no good. It is my way of telling you that you're well on your way to becoming great, but I would like for you to keep practicing until you get even better! I've been there, so I know we can't all be master artists at a young age. I know I wasn't. It takes lots of practice. I will place you on the waiting list, and I will keep checking your gallery to keep up on your progress.

-- If you don't feel you're ready for drawing portraits, you may still have a chance to join a similar project involving photography. I will post a link to this Photo project in a couple of weeks.

#1). What is this project all about, and how did it start?

Imagine yourself being part of a Project that could involve a few, a dozen, or even a hundred talented artists. Deviant Art is full of Talent, professional and amateur. This is your chance to make a connection with some, many, or all of them!! Although this Project might fizzle out as soon as two months from now, there is that chance that it might go on for many months, or even years! Maybe someday the amateurs become the next DaVincis, or Monets,.... and you can proudly say "I colaborated/participated in a project with DaVinci!". O.K. Maybe that's ambitious, but it IS possible.

If this becomes big enough and if the portraits are of good quality, what if we are able to put together a book containing all of them?? If there was money in it, we could donate it to a chosen charitable organization. I think that would be pretty cool. Sure this is a project that may be WAY over my head, but I'm willing to give it a try. Are you??

#2). How is this going to work?

--Let's assume that you're the first one to start this series, and I am second.

a.) You choose a person to draw a portrait of.
b.) You take a photo of yourself with your completed portrait.
c.) You send me that photo.
d.) I draw the photo of you and your completed portrait.
e.) I take a photo of myself, with my completed portrait of you and your portrait.
f.) I send the photo of myself to the next artist in line.

This process can continue indefinitely, and it can go on for weeks, months, or even years! For this reason there is no deadline to join.

#1). How do I join?

-- Note me, and add this account to your watch. I will take a look at your gallery, (and though I absolutely hate the idea of having to do this) I will try to determine from your drawings if you're ready for it.

-- You may also place the "ArtistPortraits" icon into your journal, but it is not required at this time.

#2). Can I look at a sample to show me what this might look like?

#3). How will I know when it's my turn to draw?

-- I will determine the order of who's first, second, third, etc. I will assign you your turn based on when you join, how soon you think you can start on the project, and how fast you think you can complete the portrait.

#4). What if I decide I don't want to participate after all?

-- Note me, and let me know ASAP. I will give your turn to the next person in line.

PROJECT RULES

#1). What media can I use?

-- I would prefer graphite, but I won't limit you. This is open to all traditional media such as oils, acrylics and graphite, but I'm willing to consider digital paintings created in programs such as Photoshop, or Corel Painter as well. No Photo Manipulation Please! I would like this series to display your free-hand skill/talent.

-- If you're a photographer, you can participate in the Photography Portraits. I will post a link to that project soon.

#2). The artist before me drew a black and white image, but I want to do mine in color. What do I do?

-- You can still draw or paint the portraits in color. Use your imagination, just don't try to change the previous artists' prominent features. They still have to be somewhat recognizeable. Besides,.... the photo of the previous artist will be in color, so even if they decided to do their portraits in black and white, you can paint the previous person in color.

#3). Can I take a full-body picture next to my drawing?

-- I would prefer that you don't. Your face should be the most important part of the photograph you are about to pass on to the next artist.

#4). Can I wear crazy make-up on my face for the portrait? (i.e. clown face)

-- As long as you still look like yourself (so long as your features are visible), make-up is O.K. You have to be somewhat recognizable. No objects should cover your face (i.e. ski mask, big hat, etc.) Note me if you have an idea, but you're not sure it will fly.

#5). What about the background in front of which I take the photo of myself?

-- You can select whatever background you wish, so long as there is no explicit nudity. If you have questions, note me.

#6). What's the deadline once it is my turn to draw?

-- Each artist will have a 1 Month limit. I'm hoping people won't take this long to finish these portraits, but I realize that unexpected things do come up. If you know you can't finish within the month, let me know, and I will pass your turn on to the next available artist.

-- In the event that you're almost done with your portrait, but something comes up at the last minute, I will make an exception and give you more time to complete it. However, I need you to send me a photo to show me the work at it's current level. I don't want people to ask for extensions when they haven't even started on it yet. I need evidence.

SUBMISSIONS


#1). How do I submit my completed piece?

-- Upload your piece to your own gallery, and note me the link. I may change the way submissions work in the future, but for now this seems like a good idea.

#2). When I take a photo of myself in front of my completed work, what quality should the photo be?

-- I would hope that the photograph is very good quality, so that the next artist is able to see the detail of your face, as well as one or two of the drawings of previous arists.

-- The photo must be in digital format. I will soon decide on the size limit of each image.

#3). Where do I send the photo of myself in front of the completed piece?

-- Upload the photo to your scraps gallery, and note me the link. I will then pass the link on to the next artist.

#4). Should I sign my artwork?

-- I would prefer that you do.
